THE Fiji Immigration Department has taken into account the cost of the service in making the newly-introduced ePassports when it decided on its fees.

This is the word from director of immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa after the release of the new ePassport fees yesterday.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, yesterday launched four different ePassports — an ordinary ePassport, an Emergency ePassport, a Diplomatic e-Passport and an Official ePassport.

“It is an increase due to the fact that we considered the service that has been provided, the new improvements, the advancements in the document and the validity which is 10 years (all books) and there are 64 pages.”

Mr Vuniwaqa said no timeline had been set as to when the current passports would be phased out.

“Until when the passport expires or even when you want to change that passport. There is no timeline because that passport is still valid and can be used at any port of entry, it depends on the individual.”
