The Suva Futsal team is wary of the high intensity in competition this weekend as it defends its title in the Digicel Futsal Inter-District Championship in Suva.

The IDC started yesterday afternoon at the Vodafone Arena at Laucala Bay, Suva.

Team captain Shahil Dave said the players had been dying for game time after retruning from a long break.

“We have been preparing well during the break and having our own individual training sessions before we came together as a team,” he said.

“We know there is high expectation for us to perform our best this year and the pressure will be there.

“We need to play hard if we want to be on the top table, and we will be expecting tough competitions from our oppositions.

“We have been preparing very well and training has been intense. Our players are focused now.

“The game plan is there, but it is how we execute that plan that matters in order to achieve our ultimate goal which is to finish on top.”

Dave said Futsal was a different game from the full football code.

“You need to be quick, you need to be on your toes, you need to concentrate on the directions where your team members are, so that you can pass the ball to, and at the same time be aware of your opponents.”

He said the competition would be tough but they had what it took to retain their title.

The competition continues today.
