Six men from Namuka Village, Tailevu are in police custody for their involvement in a violent raid at a home near Nakelo Landing on Monday evening.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said investigations were still ongoing as to the details surrounding the incident, which resulted in three people requiring medical treatment.

“We are still taking statements but from what we understand, the incident is related to a previous confrontation between youths from Namuka village and some men residing at that house in Nakelo Landing,” she said.

Resident, Eseta Yavuvatu, 21, said her family was enjoying a kava session when about 50 men came to the house.

“They were shouting and swearing, smashed the glass doors, entered our house and assaulted the men in the house,” she said.

“We were so terrified and we never thought something like this could happen to us.”

Ms Yavuvatu, who is four months pregnant, said a family member had to whisk her four-month-old niece away to safety to avoid the violent mob.

“My bedridden father was also in the living room when they entered the house and ransacked our rooms and assaulted my husband.”

Police investigations continue.
