Rape suspect told to seek legal representation

A MAN charged with the rape of a 20-year-old woman in December last year has been given time by the High Court in Suva to seek legal representation.
Wise Ezekiel Lagilevu who is charged with one count each of rape, criminal intimidation, false information to public servant, escape from lawful custody and serious assault appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar today.
It is alleged the suspect Lagilevu raped victim on December 13, 2018, in Suva and also threatened to kill the woman by instilling fear with the intent to rape.
It is also alleged also he gave false information to the Police during an interview and on December 15, 2018 escaped from Totogo Police Station in Suva.
The accused is also alleged attempted to assault and resisted arrest by a police officer on December 23, 2018 in Raiwai.
State lawyer, Paulini Bogitini said on the last occasion, Mr Lagilevu guilty plea was not accepted as the court noted he needed legal representation.
Justice Goundar gave the accused time to seek legal representation.
He has been further remanded and will re-appear in Court on July 5.
