IMPROPER disposal of litter is a crime, says Permanent Secretary for Waterways and Environment Joshua Wycliffe.

He made the comment while officiating at the training on policing of littering currently underway at the Southern Cross Hotel in Suva.

Mr Wycliffe said the current practice of littering has caused the government to come out strong and heavy on people.

“Improper disposal of litter is a crime because it directly affects those that did not commit the crime,” he said.

More than 40 people will be graduating from the training this afternoon.

They will be part of the 600 Litter Prevention Officers around the country.
