PERMANENT Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office Yogesh Karan has assured farmers that Government would continue to assist with reasonable grant.

In handing over financial grants to more than 20 farmers in Labasa this morning, Mr Karan said the increased number of harvesting machines in the country reflected Government’s commitment towards the sugar industry.

“In 2016, we had two privately owned harvesters in Fiji but this year, within a short period of time, we have a total of 72 harvesters.”

Government, he added would also assist farmers in purchasing planting machines.

“We have harvesters and we also plan to introduce the planting machines to assist farmers because the industry is also becoming mechanised,” Mr Karan said.
