FICAC officers raid SODELPA office

Officers from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) this morning raided the headquarters of the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) at 66 McGregor Road, Suva.
A statement authorised by SODELPA General Secretary, Emele Duituturaga said the (FICAC) officers provided a search warrant in regards to a complaint that was lodged with the Commission.
“The search warrant was issued to obtain information and documentation relating to Party membership, registration relating to residential addresses of certain SODELPA Members of Parliament in relation to a complaint regarding alleged breaches of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act of 2014,” the statement said.
“The General Secretary and staff in the presence of the Acting Vice Presidents and Party Leader cooperated with officers of the Commission to conduct the search.
“The Party Leader as Parliamentary Leader has been requested by the Executives to liaise directly with Members of Parliament affected.
“The Party trusts that the legal system will uphold the principles of natural justice and that everyone is innocent until proven guilty
“We assure our members and supporters that the Party upholds the principles of accountability and transparency, and in that regard, we will fully cooperate with authorities as required before the law.
“The Party is now focused on assisting our Members prepare for the 2020/2021 Budget Debate this month.”
