The 2022 Commonwealth Games is nearing its end for Team Fiji with only one athlete left to take part in a single event.
Yeshnil Karan will compete in the men’s 5000 metre event on Saturday as all other athletes have completed their competitions.
Yesterday, Karan finished 11th in his 1500m heat after running against Olympic and world champion runners.
Lawn bowls and table tennis were in contention to compete tomorrow but lost out their matches, bringing their run to an end.
Team Fiji general manager Ajay Ballu said it had been a good run so far.
“We have another medal for us and what can I say, we are just glad to have won another medal. Hats off to Nabili Vatunisolo for that incredible performance,” Ballu said.
He added that the athletes had so far done great in all competitions around the different venues.
Fiji now has two silver and two bronze medals.
As of 7.30pm yesterday, Team Fiji was placed 23rd on the medal standings.
Australia leads the medal haul with 50 gold, 42 silver and 40 bronze.
Hosts England is second with 42 gold, 44 silver and 32 bronze medals followed by Canada with 17 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze.
Samoa leads the Pacific Islands with its one gold and three silver medals and sits at 17th place.
