$800k to fund Fiji Police special drug operations

BUDGETARY allocation of $800,000 has been set aside for the Fiji Police Force to undertake its special drug operations that arise based on any suspected cases of drug-related activities in all divisions.
This as the Force has discovered new practices that are rapidly transforming the illicit drug trade.
According to the Government’s 2019/2020 national budget highlights, over the course of the past two years, this operation had uncovered more than $200million in various narcotics.
It has also been noted that a total allocation of $727,178 has also been provided to purchase police boats and outboard engines.
This purchase will provide maximum maritime security for port of entry, efficient and cost-effective border management services, and timely and effective response to criminal activities and disasters in open waters.
The specific areas of operation include Tukavesi in the Northern Division, Lakeba in the Southern Division, and Levuka and Korolevu in the Eastern Division.
