YOUR vote is important because it will determine the future of our home.

Natuva Village headman Veresa Sorovakarua said this to members of his community before they queued up to cast their votes in the 2022 General Election when pre-polling began there on Tuesday.

He said there were a number of challenges faced by the community but road access was their major issue.

Mr Sorovakarua said there were only two ways to the village – a footpath from Nameka Village and the Wainibuka River which flowed past the village – and until today, the villagers experienced great difficulty getting in or out.

He also said transporting their weekly shopping to the village, let alone building material, was a challenge.

“It’s either we have to carry our stuff down a steep footpath from Nameka or we pay boat fare to be dropped off at the village,” he said.

Natuva Village is located about 40 kilometres inland from the Kings Rd in Tailevu.

Mr Sorovakarua said there were some Natuva villagers who were in cities and towns and were unable to cast their vote because of the location of polling stations.
