THE Fijian Elections Office has referred two persons to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for alleged breaches of the Electoral Act, says Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

“One is Mr Awadh Narayan Sharma of the National Federation Party for breaching section 116 for the Electoral Act, which states that any political party or candidate for election to Parliament or any person representing or acting under the direction of any political party or any candidate must not use any language or publish any document that seeks to threaten or incite violence or hatred in any form against any other person or group of persons.

“This is in relation to Mr Awadh Narayan’s comments of a person who has made a complaint that it targets a particular community, and we’ll leave that to FICAC to investigate and deal with.

“We have also referred a Facebook user to FICAC for publishing the wrong number of a candidate and misinforming voters on the number of the candidate.

“This is one of the most critical parts of the election and we cannot have people misinforming voters on the number of the candidates, hence we are taking this action for investigation to take place against this person.”
