2019/2020 National Budget: Government’s spending party over

THE spending party of the Bainimarama-led Government is over, says National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad.
In his response to the 2019/2020 National Budget delivered by Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum last night, Prof Prasad said the “borrowing party” and “spending spree” of Government in the last four years had to come to an end.
“Unfortunately, there’s not much in terms of how this Government will come to rejuvenate the economy in the various sectors, especially in the tourism industry where taxes have made Fiji’s tourism products out of reach from many so destinations,” he said.
“This is a budget which regretfully realises that what they did in the last four years was poor and terrible economic management.”
He said the NFP members in Opposition were expecting an expenditure cut.
“There are a lot of holes in the budget that I can see.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said politicians tend to “get off these cheap political points”.
He said Prof Prasad should know that “we were on a rebuilding program”.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum added Prof Prasad’s comments were nonsense.
